Click For Babies
Gillett Handiworks is a drop off site and mail site for the public campaign of Click For Babies. Click for Babies is a public campaign started by the National Center For Shaken Baby Syndrome to help new parents and caregivers understand the crying patterns newborns experience, and how to cope with it. It is called 'Click for Babies' because of the sound knitting needles and crochet hooks can make when they are being used for projects. The crying is referred to as the 'Period of P.U.R.P.L.E. Crying'. Purple is used as an acronym to explain the crying:
P-Peak of Crying (usually around 2 months of age)
U-Unexpected (Can come and go without warning)
R-Resists Soothing (Can't Calm Down)
P-Pain-Like Face (Can Look Like They're In Pain Even When They're Not)
L-Long Lasting (Can Last Up to 5 Hours in some infants)
E-Evening (Evening and Late Afternoon are when the crying is most commonly seen)
New parents and caregivers are given educational materials explaining the crying patterns and coping techniques. Each baby is given a purple hat to remind them of what the educational materials taught.
From May to the end of September hats are collected. If you wish to help make hats for the cause, here are some things to remember:
